There are two fully air conditioned computer Labs
in the University with 60 computers having latest
configuration and high speed internet facility.
The University IT department is available to
provide guidance to the students, faculty staff
and Non-teaching staff in attaining expertise in
operating computers. The academic curriculum of
the University is largely oriented towards the use
of latest technology.
In the upcoming new RGNUL campus the university is
going to establish fully air conditioned Wi-Fi
enabled Hi-tech Apple computer Labs with around 70
computers and one HP Lab with 50 desktop computers
with i5 processor. These Labs are also equipped
with latest windows and Microsoft office and all
necessary academic software’s. To provide the best
use of IT in the field of education the University
is also planning to install Interactive board,
Projectors and Multimedia podium in each class
rooms of RGNUL new campus at Sidhuwal, Patiala.
The software supplied with the interactive
whiteboard will usually allow the teacher to keep
notes and annotations as an electronic file for
later distribution either on paper or through a
number of electronic formats.
The University is having 1Gbps connectivity for
its campus through BSNL under NMEICT project. With
the implementation of this mission the RGNUL is
become a part of National Knowledge Network (NKN)
through BSNL. This project provides E-connectivity
for the students and the teachers; it helps the
students in the field of Law and having
communication with other Universities and also for
their placement. To provide secure Internet
connection the University is having Cyberoam
(Unified threat Management System) at its
premises. It is an appliance that delivers
real-time network protection against evolving
Internet threats through unique user based
policies. These hardware firewalls safeguard the
network from the outside threats and intrusions.
Use of IT facilities requires prior registration
and the granting of a user code or an individual
password. The RGNUL campus is a Wi-Fi campus with
access to Internet, Intranet and e-mail for 24x7
hours.
Keeping in view the essential importance of
computer networking, the University initiated its
efforts by surfacing a plan for developing a
Campus Wide Computer Network with a mandate to
link together all the computing resources located
in different departments, Research Centres and
other buildings of the University for easy and
useful access by the University community
comprising of faculty, research personnel,
students and staff to a host within and/or outside
the University of IT- based services such as the
e-mail, internet and access to a large variety of
knowledge sources available. The IT department
with an emphasis to make Rajiv Gandhi National
University of Law a fully IT enabled University.
Campus Networking, University website, Internet
and Intranet is also maintained by the IT
department of the University and they are
implementing the project at RGNUL new campus in a
phased manner. The first phase of the project was
to Provide Wi-Fi Internet and Intranet facility to
its Hostels and Faculty Residence has already been
implemented at RGNUL new campus Sidhuwal, Patiala.
In the second phase all departments, Hostels,
Faculty Residence of the University will be
connected with optical fiber backbone. Server Room
equipped with Blade Server, Central Switches and
other related equipment like Hardware/Software and
infrastructure will be established in the IT,
Department of the University. The Single
mode/multi-mode fiber-optic cabling will be laid
over a distance of about 2 km extending to various
departments of the University.
