Justice Uday Umesh Lalit (born on November 9,1957) is senior judge, Supreme Court of India (August 13, 2014 to November 8, 2022). He has also been nominated as executive chairman of National Legal Services Authority (NALSA). Prior to his elevation, he practised as a senior counsel at the Supreme Court. He enrolled as an advocate in June, 1983. He was advocate in the High Court of Bombay from 1983 to 1985. Justice Lalit started practising as an advocate in Delhi from January,1986. He was designated Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court in April, 2004. An astute lawyer, he has appeared as Amicus Curiae in many matters. He was appointed Special Public Prosecutor for CBI to conduct trial in all 2G matters under the orders of the Supreme Court. He has also served as Member of Supreme Court of India Legal Services Committee for two terms.
